Nominations For The 2010 South Australian Oaks

April 7th, 2010

This Saturday the third prestigious race day of the Adelaide Racing Carnival will be held at the beautiful Morphettville Racecourse – the South Australian Oaks Day – and will be headlined by the Group 3 South Australian Oaks (2400m).

The race has seen 19 fantastic three-year-old fillies nominated, all travelling to the city’s racetrack to compete for a share in the $100,000 prize purse on offer.

More commonly known as the Sportingbet SA Fillies Classic, the SA Oaks will be one of eight races taking place on Saturday, and the Danny O’Brien-trained Ipioga may be one to watch.

The SA Oaks will be one of eight races taking place on Saturday, and the Danny O’Brien-trained Ipioga may be one to watch.

Based in Flemington, Ipioga finished third in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2006m) in March, and as the Oaks is a good indicator into horse form for the SA Oaks, puts the filly in good stead.

The Tasmanian Oaks (2100m) held in February this year, saw another two nominations perform well at the Launceston Racecourse;  with Lee Freedman-trained Vimy and Kerrie McCarthy-trained Love The Moment finishing second and third respectively.

Freedman also has Gallant Lady nominated for the 2010 South Australian Oaks.

John Thompson has the most entrants in the 19 – with four being trained by him, most notably Drivel and Legislature.

Also taking place on Saturday alongside the 2010 South Australian Oaks will be the Group 3 SA Sires Produce Stakes (1400m).
