2010 South Australian Oaks Preview

February 11th, 2010

As the city of Adelaide gears up to host the highlight Autumn Carnival, the 2010 South Australian Oaks is getting closer, and drawing attention from three-year-old fillies from around Australia.

Taking place on the 10th of April, the Group 3 race sees $100,000 on offer.

Held at the Morphettville Racecourse in Adelaide the females compete at set-weights over 2,500 metres aiming for a stake in the prize money.

Early talk seems to imply Umatain may start at the 2010 South Australian Oaks.

Early talk seems to imply Umatain may start at the 2010 South Australian Oaks leading in through the Australasian Oaks. The Clinton McDonald-trained filly finished first in the Moet and Chandon (1700m) and prior to that was triumphant in a Geelong maiden over 1,403 metres.

Umatain will hope to forget her run in the Mittys Vanity (1400m) where she finished last if she starts the 2010 South Australian Derby.

However keep an eye on the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) which is taking place on the 20th of March at the Morphettville Racecourse, as it will give a good indication as to the strong fillies over a longer distance.

Also running on the 10th of April at Morphettville will be the Group 3 South Australia Sires Produce Stakes (1600m).
